Join Me For My New NBA Pool

...because:

...about football anymore.  Week Three was as merciless and dark-humored as any Tarantino movie I can remember, but with a much less satisfying conclusion.

True for most of us anyway.  Maybe not the Bears guys like Bill and Ben.  And certainly not for Dangerous Diana, who, while she didn't win exactly has now opened the season by either tying or winning outright each of the first three weeks.  So congratulations to Mike, who wins this week on the tiebreaker (and gets payback on D for how things went down in Week One).  Still...an unprecedented start.

At least some things still make sense.  I mean, Cleveland lost, right?

Right?

We have the facts, and we're voting...

....for something.  I'll get to that in a minute.

First, I should acknowledge the results of weeks one and two.  In the former, my dear sister-in-law Diana (that's Dangerous D to all of you and I cannot say more) edged Mike Mac for the win, and in the latter, D was right back in it, all up in the grille of her own hub (that would be my brother; somebody please tell me what they're using in their water softener), only to lose to Jim on the points tiebreaker.

All in all, hell of a start for Team Janesville.

About the vote: I got a few, and it was enough to recognize that my idea of doing zero weekly prizes and letting everyone go balls-out for one of the top five season-long spots was not popular.  And by "not popular" I mean "totally reviled."  The option that was most-voted-for wasn't actually on the list, and it involved a simple reduction in the weekly payout by half.  So there you go. We will go with $25 every week.

The total pot is 1050.
17 weeks @ 25 = 425, meaning after week 17, we'll have 625.  That's a pretty nice number.

1st place: 300
2nd place: 200
3rd place: 100

I further announce the return of the Roo Award, $25 to the LOWEST overall score by the player who - and this is important - gets picks in every week.

The financials worksheet has been updated accordingly.

Roo approves of this message.

Week One. Er, Two.

I'm just getting a break from the funhouse work has been this week, and even as I write Week Two is underway already.  So I will make this brief.

See what I did there?

Business:  we've shrunk again, and have 21 players this year.  That's something we'll talk about later, but for now, we have figure out how to do prizes.  If I pay out every week, that leaves a meager $200 for the overall winner(s) after 17 weeks.  So here are the options:

  • Do that, and season-winner-take-all ($200)
  • Do that, and split first and second place overall 125/75
  • Really make things interesting: pay out nothing weekly and make the top five spots winners (450-350-250-100-50)

I like that last one myself, but we do things democratically around here, so kindly give me your vote in the comments or by email.  We'll make the 17th Super Tuesday....polls close at 5pm).  Thanks.

Oh yeah.  This is kinda cool.
